Lemoore,
CA-- It literally took an act of God to bring Elder Marcel Thomas to the San
Joaquin Valley so many years ago. When The Great Depression ravaged
the economy of this great nation and plauge-like winds began to blow away
the precious topsoil in the midwest, farmers had to find a way to survive,
a way to support their families doing the only thing many of them knew--farming.
If you spend a little time with farmers or their progeny, you 'll discover
certain things, things that make the breed and the people special. There is
a simplistic wisdom to the way they live their lives and view their God, their
world and their land. When they look at the ground, they can read its
face as if it were a book. They can look at the sky and tell you what mood
she's in, and they can tell you that they are keenly aware of their connection
to the earth and all that she is capable of producing, if respected and nurtured.
They know that the entire world depends on them for survival. And while they
are a proud legion, this knowledge makes them neither arrogant, nor condescending.
They walk in modesty, and they believe that the laborer is worthy of his
hire, and if a man doesn't work, he shouldn't eat. Long ago they adopted
technology--there is a science to getting the rows just right, the seeds
the proper depth, and the right fertilizer mix and insect repellent. It is
through farming that Elder Thomas first learned of labor and its benefits.
He learned of planting, waiting, and harvesting, and through the years, this
knowledge has sustained him as he's answered God's call. He is a simple man.
He simply believed God would help him buy the land his sanctuary and dining
room sit on today. He simply believed that God would supply the barren land
with buildings, and he did--the sanctuary first, then the dining room. He
and his brothers spent long hours wiring, stuccoing , painting and remodelling.
And, like a properly cultivated field of cotton, his crop has blossomed and
the harvest is continually coming in. The church grounds are neat and
well maintained. If you look closely at the pictures below, you'll see God's
handiwork in the building and the people of New Light Apostolic Temple.
