District
Elder Charles Gamble's comments on the new organizational structure.--"Get
excited about this thing. George Washington Carver didn't fight against prejudice.
He took what was offered. He realized he couldn't fight them, so he worked
with it. To call such people Uncle Tom's, you don't know what you are talking
about. "You" may not understand it, but lets work with it." |
| Assistant District Elder Tommie Wofford-- "God is Our Refuge!" --Psalms 46 These are notes and excerpts from the Bible Class Hezekiah faced the Assyrians who were in power at this time, and they practiced siege warfare. The Assyrians were of European descent. They were a short stocky people who very aggressive in nature. They came to the exact more tribute from Hezekiah. Sennacherib's emissary began to tell the Israelites about how many cities Sennacherib had conquered and asked them if they thought their God could defeat this great king Sennacherib. Even in the land of Judah, I believe there were 46 cities that Sennacherib had conquered so that they were somewhat boastful in talking about what they were going to do. Sennacherib's emissary told the people don't let Hezekiah deceive you into trusting in him. There is nothing he can do. So then things look bad, and the entourage went back to Hezekiah and told him the report. I like what Hezekiah did. He went to the house of God and began to seek God, and he also sent word to the man of God. He sent word to a prophet by the name of Isaiah, and when I Isaiah got the word, he sent back to Hezekiah, telling him that everything is going to be all right. There was a second exchange between Sennacherib and Hezekiah and Hezekiah again went to the house of God and sought the Lord. That night, the Lord slew 185,000 Assyrians. After the Israelites saw the enemy slain, that Hezekiah was inspired to write the 46th Psalm: " God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. "That night, the LORD slew 185,000 Assyrians.
"
God said that not an arrow
would be shot into the city, and God allowed Sennacherib to go back to his
own house, and his own son slew him about 20 years later. When we look at this particular situation and this particular scripture, I want to encourage us today. This was a man who could not help himself our of this situation. This was a man who's back was against the wall. It had to take a move of God, a great move of God, and God moved in the behalf of his people. God has not changed . God is still the same God that he was in that day in our day. So then this man offered up to God a sacrifice or word of praise because he found God to be a refuge. He found God to be a place for protection. And this is what a refuge is, a place to go for protection. This man trusted in God in spite of the strong words of Sennacherib. The Bible tells us that they that live Godly shall suffer persecution. We know that our enemy is a formidable foe, but we also know that greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world. With God, nothing shall be impossible, all things are possible through him. So, then, we must understand who we have. It is time now, to get closer and closer to God, to reach higher and higher!! |
